00:0-1 K 12 Education systems around the world . Let us
00:02 begin with the basics . K 12 refers to classes
00:06 from kindergarten all the way through to Class 12 .
00:09 In many countries , this level of education is provided
00:12 free . Broadly speaking , the K 12 system is
00:15 divided into pre primary , primary , middle and senior
00:19 schools . This categorization , however , May vary in
00:23 different countries and across different boards . Schools around the
00:27 world follow different curricula at each level of the K
00:30 12 education system . Today , in this section we
00:34 will be focusing more on systems followed in India .
00:37 There are a number of education boards that have devised
00:40 their own education systems . Some have become so successful
00:44 that they are subscribed to by a huge number of
00:46 schools . These include national levels . CBSI and ICSC
00:51 boards , state level boards offering their curriculum in each
00:54 state and then the international curricula , which are the
00:58 I G C S , E , A S and
01:00 A . Levels , and the I . B ,
01:02 which have emerged as high profile education systems . All
01:07 these boards and education systems vary in terms of their
01:10 approach and teaching methodologies . Let's briefly glance into each
01:14 of these systems before diving deep into each one .
01:19 Starting with the indian boards . The Central Board of
01:22 Secondary Education C . B . S . E .
01:24 Is widely recognized as a strong and reputed education board
01:28 in India and is subscribed by a large number of
01:31 schools , both private and public . The most important
01:35 feature of CBS seaboard is that it concentrates on subjects
01:38 that prepares students to pursue professional courses such as medicine
01:42 and engineering . Another striking trait of the C .
01:45 B . S . C is that students can pursue
01:47 it even after changing schools given that their new school
01:51 also follows the CBSI curriculum . This makes it a
01:54 natural choice for Children of government employees who are transferred
01:58 constantly due to job requirements . Let's pursue five subjects
02:02 at grade 10 . That is a first language ,
02:05 a second language math sciences and social sciences . Apart
02:09 from India , CBSI is also followed in countries such
02:12 as Malaysia japan , the U A . E .
02:16 Singapore , Russia bahrain , kuwait Bangladesh , Indonesia ,
02:21 Nepal Oman Ethiopia Saudi Arabia Singapore and several others .
02:26 The other famous education board in India is the indian
02:30 Certificate of Secondary Education I . CSC . It is
02:34 a private board which is not affiliated to the government
02:37 . However , it is recognized by many foreign education
02:40 systems and is considered equivalent to a high school or
02:44 senior examination . Unlike the CBS see , the ICSC
02:49 focuses more on enhancing the english language skills of students
02:53 , enabling them to become strong communicators in the future
02:57 . It also focuses equally on other academic subjects and
03:01 strives to strike a balance between them . It provides
03:04 an opportunity to students to participate in a lot of
03:07 extra curricular activities and project work . The ICSC is
03:12 also followed by schools in countries such as Singapore ,
03:15 the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia among others . Students
03:21 at the ICC level that is class 10 pursue six
03:24 subjects with a special focus on socially useful and productive
03:28 work as well as community service . Then in class
03:32 12 that is I . S . C . They
03:34 would be taking five subjects along with the S .
03:37 U . P . W . And community service .
03:40 We will be covering the state board curricula . Every
03:44 state in India has a separate state education board which
03:48 is managed in all aspects by the respective state government
03:51 and varies from state to state in order to suit
03:54 their own requirements when it comes to recognition . This
03:57 also varies . For example the state education boards of
04:01 Maharashtra , West , Bengal and Carla are more widely
04:05 recognized than their counterparts . The state boards do offer
04:09 a similar set of academic subjects . However , the
04:12 students are also required to pursue a third language ,
04:15 which is the language spoken in that state , so
04:19 that would be a first language , a second language
04:22 , a third language , math , science and social
04:26 sciences . The state boards are more inclined towards the
04:30 traditional way of route learning . With little or no
04:33 focus on practical approach for students who want to appear
04:37 for state level entrance exams , they can prepare themselves
04:40 better if they have pursued the state board curriculum .
04:43 Now let us move on to the international boards .
04:46 The first one we shall get acquainted with is the
04:48 I . B . Curriculum . The I . B
04:50 . Curriculum is offered by the International baccalaureate Organization ,
04:54 a nonprofit educational organization in Switzerland . The I .
04:59 B . Curriculum is one of high quality programs and
05:02 is subscribed by many international schools . The curriculum is
05:06 known for its holistic approach and high quality of education
05:10 . It is based more on research and is usually
05:13 taken by students who are interactive , curious and communicative
05:17 . Next board is the C . A . I
05:20 . E . That offers three different curricula for classes
05:23 10 , 11 and 12 . The C . A
05:27 . I . E . Stands for Cambridge Assessment .
05:29 International Education offers I GCSE and A . Level curricula
05:33 for class 10 And a . Level qualifications for classes
05:37 11 and 12 . Don't worry , all will become
05:40 clear in a moment when we look at each one
05:42 by one . The I G . C . S
05:44 . E . Stands for International General Certificate of Secondary
05:48 Education . The I G . C . S .
05:50 E . Is offered by the University of Cambridge international
05:53 examinations and as an international curriculum which enjoys a huge
05:57 reputation around the world . This international curriculum is designed
06:01 for students aged 14 - 16 . Many schools in
06:05 India now offer I G C . S . E
06:07 , which is the equivalent to the U K .
06:10 G C . S . E . And offers a
06:11 wide cache of 70 subjects to choose from . The
06:15 syllabi are designed in such a way that students get
06:18 an international outlook without any cultural bias . It is
06:22 an academically rigorous , internationally recognized and specialist english language
06:27 curriculum which has offered to students to prepare them for
06:30 A . Levels . Now we will discuss the G
06:33 . CEO levels . This is also offered by the
06:36 University of Cambridge international examinations . G C . E
06:41 Old levels is for Class 10 but differs on many
06:44 major terms . O levels is a subject-based academic qualification
06:49 with fewer coursework options . It has 40 subjects to
06:52 choose from and its curriculum enables teaching to be placed
06:55 in a localized context to suit local needs . That
06:59 means that teaching changes based on the local context .
07:03 Old levels also has confined testing methods , which makes
07:08 it ideal for schools with fewer resources . The next
07:12 level of examinations offered for high school students is a
07:15 level qualification . Once the students clear there , I
07:19 GCSE , or low level , they may move up
07:21 to pursue the C I E A level qualification .
07:25 The CAIEA level qualification has two parts . The first
07:30 part is the advanced subsidiary level , or A S
07:34 level designed for grade 11 . While the second part
07:37 is called C I E A two level , which
07:40 is for grade 12 . The A . S .
07:43 Level is a qualification in its own right , and
07:45 the A . S . Level , combined with a
07:47 two level forms a complete A . Level qualification ,
07:51 A . S and A . Levels take the students
07:55 education right where it's left at the end of the
07:57 I G CSC or all levels . And the curriculum
08:00 in the C . A I . E is designed
08:03 in such a way that it prepares the students for
08:05 higher education and universities and converts them into preferable applicants
08:09 in the university admission process .
