00:00 mhm confidence . It's a word you probably hear a
00:24 lot , but what does it mean ? Confidence is
00:28 believing in yourself and your abilities when you are confident
00:33 , it means that you recognize the things you are
00:35 good at and are happy to give new things ago
00:40 . Having good self esteem is a big part of
00:43 being confident . Good self esteem means you accept yourself
00:48 and you feel positive about yourself just the way you
00:52 are . But sometimes it's hard to feel confident and
00:56 good about yourself because we get caught up in comparing
00:59 ourselves to others around us . But the thing is
01:03 , everyone is completely unique . Even identical twins are
01:08 unique . Everyone has different bodies , cultures , religions
01:15 , styles , skills and abilities . Comparing yourself to
01:19 people who are different in all those ways is exhausting
01:23 because you'll never be exactly the same as someone else
01:26 . So instead of focusing on other people , why
01:29 not figure out what you can do and focus on
01:32 being the best version of yourself possible ? One important
01:38 thing to remember is that everyone is good at something
01:41 , but sometimes we spend so much time focusing on
01:44 why we aren't a wizard . Absolutely everything that we
01:48 forget this . There may have been a time when
01:51 you tried something new , like a sport or a
01:53 maths problem and didn't do as well as you hoped
01:57 . But every time you give something new a go
01:59 , you have to remember that your first try probably
02:02 won't be perfect . Things take practice . So don't
02:06 be hard on yourself when we don't do as well
02:10 as we expect . We can sometimes start thinking negative
02:13 things about ourselves . But instead of listening to these
02:17 negative thoughts , remind yourself of all the things you
02:21 are great at and your other achievements . Perhaps you're
02:25 an ace at art Mm , or really enjoy English
02:30 and wrote a brilliant story . Maybe you have a
02:33 knack for chess and can checkmate your opponent before they
02:36 can even blink . Everyone experiences different levels of confidence
02:46 . But did you know that you can train your
02:48 brain to become more confident ? A good way to
02:52 look at confidence is to think of it as a
02:54 muscle . A muscle grows when you work on it
02:58 , right ? Well , so does confidence . Working
03:02 on your confidence every day helps to strengthen and develop
03:06 it . So even though you may not feel incredibly
03:09 confident , you can become confident . Here are some
03:15 really simple tips to help develop your confidence . Re
03:20 evaluate your goals . If you're overwhelmed by expectations to
03:27 achieve , take a moment and set some realistic goals
03:31 . Making small goals to reach your big final goal
03:34 is the best plan because it's easier to achieve those
03:38 small goals in little steps . Then the big goal
03:41 in one huge leap . Don't give up when you
03:50 try something new . More often than not , you'll
03:52 fail at first and that's okay . It happens to
03:56 everyone . It's a cycle of trying , failing and
04:00 trying again until you get there . Just don't give
04:03 up . If everyone who failed on their first attempt
04:06 gave up , we wouldn't have the Internet . Nor
04:09 would we have airplanes , medicines or phones . The
04:12 key to success is to keep on trying . Turn
04:19 the volume down on that negative self talk . Everyone
04:25 has positive and negative thoughts . But did you know
04:28 that you can choose which ones to listen to when
04:32 you have negative thoughts ? Just let them go and
04:34 listen to the ones that help you to feel positive
04:38 . If you keep doing this , you will be
04:40 training your brain to be more confident Yeah , yeah
04:44 . Be constructive , Not destructive . Criticism comes in
04:52 two ways . Constructive and destructive . Bullies saying nasty
04:58 things is destructive criticism . But a teacher recommending some
05:03 ways you can improve at school is constructive criticism .
05:07 So reject the comments that bring you down and let
05:13 in all the comments that help you grow . Which
05:17 leads us to the final handy tip for confidence .
05:19 Believe in yourself and celebrate your differences . Mhm .
05:27 Nobody is the same . It's a fact of life
05:30 . So why spend time trying to compare yourself to
05:33 other people when you'll only ever be yourself ? Find
05:37 the special qualities that make you you and love them
05:41 . Perhaps you could even make a list . Yeah
05:46 . Did you know there are some real benefits to
05:49 being confident when you're confident you have more energy ,
05:53 you're happier and you're more comfortable with yourself , which
05:56 means you can enjoy yourself more if you're confident you'll
06:00 be more willing to give things a go , which
06:03 means you might discover new things you really enjoy .
06:07 So next time you're experiencing negative thoughts about yourself or
06:12 hearing destructive criticism , let them pass like clouds in
06:16 the sky and remember the things you're good at and
06:20 the wonderful characteristics that make you unique and irreplaceable .
06:26 Yeah ,
