| 00:03 | days of school . So I wanted to have something | |
| 00:05 | to mark for 100 days of school in order to | |
| 00:08 | have that celebration . And when fourth graders it was | |
| 00:11 | a little bit more challenging . So the 100 books | |
| 00:14 | was a way to get them to read , and | |
| 00:16 | it was the student to get to read five books | |
| 00:19 | first . And so as the kids started reading , | |
| 00:22 | let's see if we could get to 100 when they | |
| 00:24 | were like 100 books . We can't do 100 books | |
| 00:27 | . I was like , Yes , you can , | |
| 00:28 | I said . And 100 days of school is actually | |
| 00:31 | coming up pretty soon . And so we took down | |
| 00:33 | what day it was then , and I would mark | |
| 00:35 | it off . I was like , Okay , at | |
| 00:37 | this point we have 25 books and there are so | |
| 00:41 | many days left till we reached 100 day mark , | |
| 00:44 | you know , so they would read and they would | |
| 00:45 | read . Now , as they read , I would | |
| 00:47 | actually have them write summaries that way that I could | |
| 00:49 | ensure that they actually read the book . Some of | |
| 00:52 | the books were from our summer reading program . So | |
| 00:55 | those books that I was sure that they read because | |
| 00:56 | we do an assessment on those , But they were | |
| 00:59 | actually choosing a favorite books to share with the class | |
| 01:01 | . So some kids read a lot more than five | |
| 01:04 | books . But they were asked to choose their favorite | |
| 01:06 | books , and every time a child read a book | |
| 01:09 | , we would post it . They actually became more | |
| 01:11 | challenging with them . Once they saw that so and | |
| 01:15 | so had three books already , so they knew that | |
| 01:17 | they needed to get on their reading of their books | |
| 01:19 | . So that's the way the 100 books came about | |
| 01:22 | . And on the 100 day we actually had more | |
| 01:25 | than 100 books , but we only posted the 100 | |
| 01:28 | so that was an excellent way to get them to | |
| 01:30 | read . It was excellent to build their vocabulary . | |
| 01:33 | It helped with their comprehension , and each child was | |
| 01:36 | reading chapter books that were on great level |
