Transcript
00:03 in this video , we are going to look at
00:04 the present perfect continuous . Now , with the present
00:08 perfect continuous , we can also use it to explain
00:11 the present . It is a little bit different to
00:14 present . Perfect simple now with present perfect simple .
00:17 We focus on the completion of the action which can
00:21 explain the present . But with the present perfect continuous
00:24 , we only focus on the duration of the action
00:27 . So whether the action has finished or not is
00:29 an important . It's just the action before that explains
00:33 now . So some examples for you I'm crying because
00:37 I have bean cutting onions . The cutting of the
00:40 onions has made me cry . Whether I finished or
00:43 not , it's not important . My shoes are wet
00:46 because I have bean washing the car so you can
00:49 take a look at those examples now , often with
00:52 the present perfect , continuous and simple . Both are
00:56 possible , especially with your dynamic verbs . It just
01:00 depends on where your focuses . So we're going to
01:02 look at some examples , using both so that you
01:04 can see the differences . So I could say Why
01:07 is the car clean ? I could say , because
01:10 I have washed it , meaning I finished washing or
01:13 because I have bean washing it . Okay , Maybe
01:16 you asked me in the middle . Okay . Another
01:20 example . Why don't you have any money ? I
01:24 could say , because I have spent it or because
01:26 I have bean spending it . Now , if you
01:29 say because I have spent it , it sounds like
01:32 you've spent all of your money . There's nothing left
01:34 . Whereas I have bean spending . I've spent a
01:37 lot , but maybe I have some left . Okay
01:39 ? Another example . Why is the living room so
01:43 dirty ? Because we have had a party or because
01:47 we have being having a party . So the same
01:49 rules apply there . Um , sometimes there is a
01:54 clear difference . Eso one example would be Why are
01:57 you not smoking now ? I really want to emphasize
02:01 that I stopped smoking , that I'm no longer smoking
02:03 , so I would use this simple . So I
02:06 have quit if I said I have bean quitting .
02:09 It sounds like I haven't quite finished yet . Um
02:12 , so there's an example of a clear difference between
02:15 the two . I hope you enjoyed the video and
02:17 I'll see you next time
