Read the following passage. Then answer the question that follows.

With junk food becoming increasingly popular, and families being on the go more than ever, kids and their parents need to know how to make healthier food choices. It is important that children learn to make healthy food choices from an early age. If children learn to make these choices, it not only makes them healthy, but also it keeps them in shape.
Staying in shape is one way of saying that someone makes wise decisions about eating, exercising and maintaining a healthy weight. Staying in shape not only helps your body to work well, but helps you feel better too. Who doesn’t want to feel well to enjoy fun activities with others?
While parents are responsible for making wise choices too, there are many ways that kids can step up to the plate and take charge. Let’s start by talking about the types of foods that kids should eat. Sure, there are special occasions when a treat is in store, but fruits and vegetables should be a part of your daily food habits, not cake and ice cream. Your body needs a variety of healthy foods. By giving your body a lot of different foods, it will be able to get the nutrients that it needs. Don’t be afraid to try new foods. You may not like everything that you try, but by trying new things, you will find more foods that you like. Throughout each day, try to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables. Hopefully, out of the five you will be able to find two fruits and three vegetables to enjoy.
Now, that we have looked at some wise food choices, let’s take a look at what you should be drinking. Water and milk are always the best choices. There is nothing that quenches your thirst like a cold glass of water. Now, you may have often wonder why schools serve cartons of milk. The truth is, milk is needed to help build strong bones because it contains calcium. Kids younger than 9 years old should drink 2 cups of milk per day. If milk isn’t your favorite thing to drink there are other ways to get the calcium that your body needs.
Some great dairy alternatives that introduce calcium into your diet are cheddar cheese and yogurt.
You may be wondering if milk and water should be your only drink choices, and the answer is no. You can choose juice drinks that are 100% pure. This means that they are not loaded down with sugar. Many sodas, juice cocktails, and fruit punches have extraordinary amounts of sugar. Along with choosing the right foods and drinks, try to stay in shape with exercise.
It is important to try to find a way to be active for at least one hour daily. This might include playing basketball, riding a bike, or swimming. Now sometimes the weather won’t allow you to enjoy these outdoor activities, so choose to get physical indoors by turning on some music that you enjoy and dancing to the beat. Other ideas include going bowling or turning your living room into a studio for “Simon Says” where you get to follow and give commands, such as: “Simon Says do 10 jumping jacks….” Just remember the idea is to get up and get active.
Staying fit doesn’t have to be hard. It simply requires making wise choices. Try to make fruits, vegetables, milk, water, and exercise a part of your daily routine! You will feel great, and your body will thank you by giving you lots of energy to do the things that you most enjoy.
