We are not allowed to have many parties at school, but this year Mr. Elliott said we could have a themed dress up party for Halloween. The fifth grade wanted the theme to be "Star Wars," but the sixth grade wanted it to be " Candyland." After a heated debate and a lot of discussion, majority ruled that the theme would be "Candyland."

Each student had to be on a planning team, and everyone had to help. The team I chose was in charge of special effects. One of my teammates and classmates, John, had a great idea to make the room look like we were really part of the boardgame! We covered the ceiling with a lot of white fluffy cotton to make it look like marshmallows and the floor was covered in red circles like m&ms. . It started to look really great. Then to create the candy canes, we cut out the shapes from colored cellophane paper to give them a shiny appearance and stuck them all over the room.

On the day of the party we had to dress as something from the game of Candyland or a piece of candy. Everyone seemed to choose the same thing: colored M&M's. John decided to be a sour patch. Jennifer was a Swedish fish, and Mary and I came as gummy bears.

The room really looked like we were really part of the board game. We also had someone put up brown colored lights for us. They were really special as they made a pattern like rippling chocolate on the walls and floor as they shone through the puffy cotton. We were really pleased with our work until all of a sudden all of the cotton balls fell down. We all got caught in the marshmallows.
