There are more than 300 species of primates that have been identified by scientists. There are three major categories that primates can be classified. These three categories are apes, monkeys, and prosimians. Apes are generally larger than the other two categories of primates. The smallest primate is a pygmy mouse lemur and the largest is the gorilla. Apes, monkeys, and prosimians can be found on the continents of Africa and Asia. Additionally, some species of monkeys can be found in the wild in Central and South America.
