The caber toss is the event that most people associate the Highland Games with. In this event, each participent takes a turn lifting the caber, a large, solid wooden pole that is often as tall as a telephone pole. Once the competor has picked the caber up, he balances it in his hands and runs forward. He then ejects the pole from his hands atempting to turn it on end. The goal is to turn the caber over in a completely straight line. The participent whose caber toss comes the closest to the twelve o’clock position wins the competshion. Different locations vary the difficulty of the task by changing the length and/or the weight of the caber.
