Jason is building a new addition to his house. It is a rectangular room that is 16 feet x 12 feet in dimensions. One of the 16-foot walls of the room will be part of the existing house. He is trying to calculate how many 8-foot long 2-by-4 (2-inch by 4-inch boards) he needs to purchase for the framing of the new room. He knows that he has to place a 2-by-4 stud in the wall every 16 in. He cannot leave a space larger than that without a 2-by-4. At each of the new corners of the room (not the existing ones), he will use three 2-by-4 for reinforcement. At the corners where the room connects to the existing portion of the house, only one stud will be needed. How many studs will he need?
