Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897. She lived with her grandparents until the age of 12 when she and her sister went to live with their parents in 1909. Amelia’s plans were to attend college, but when she came across four wounded World War I soldiers, she decided that she wanted to become a nurse. Her dedication to helping people led her from nursing to work as a social worker. While she worked as a social worker, she often spent her free time teaching immigrant children how to speak English.
Her most noteworthy journey began in 1920 when she took a ten-minute plane ride that completely changed her life. She decided to focus on earning a pilot’s license. She challenged herself with a variety of jobs to earn the $1,000 needed for flying lessons to fulfill her dream.
Amelia Earhart proceeded to excel as a pilot. She received a medal from President Herbert Hoover in 1932 for her solo flight across the Atlantic. She did not stop there. Earhart was the first female to fly from Hawaii to California.

Which sentence indicates why Earhart never went to college?
