They have long leaves which grow right at the top of the tree. The leaves are used for many different things. Leaf ribs are made into brooms, and fiber is obtained from the outer cover of the nut and used for mattresses, rugs, etc. The trunk is used to make logs for small boats. It is also used for firewood. The sweet water of the tender coconut quenches the thirst during the hot summer months and is also very healthy.
