There are three basic categories of primates. These three categories are apes, monkeys, and prosimians. There are distinct differences in apes, monkeys, and prosimians. For instance, each primate has a unique nose shape. Apes have hook shaped noses that are dry, monkeys have flat noses that are dry, and prosimians have dog-like snouts that are always wet. Additionally, they are dissimilar in the number of species that have been identified. Scientist has acknowledged that there are approximately 23 species of apes, hundreds of species of monkeys, and about 50 species of prosimians. Further, differences in the three categories of primates are the lifespan of each. Apes can live to be sixty years old, whereas prosimians generally only live to be nineteen. Monkeys have been known to live up to thirty years. A final contrast is when the different primates are most active. Apes and monkeys are more active during the day while, prosimians are more active at night. As you can see these three categories of primates have distinct differences.
