Read the two passages about Louisiana and answer the question.

Louisiana

It can be said that the state of Louisiana is a melting pot of people. There are many different ethnic groups that have settled into pockets of this great state. Not only are there people from many ethnic groups such as Vietnamese, Spanish, and Europeans but also there are two groups of people that have blended into two unique ethnic groups. These two groups are the Cajuns and the Creoles.

The Cajuns are the French Canadians that moved down from Canada to Southern Louisiana. They fled Canada because of its British rule that was attempting to force all Canadians to accept the King’s Protestant religion. Most of the French Canadians that moved to Louisiana were Catholics. When the Cajuns arrived in Louisiana, they were accepted and allowed to practice their chosen religion. As the Cajuns became more settled in Louisiana, their customs and heritage began to impact the current populations’ way of life. The Cajuns impact is still seen today throughout Louisiana.

The Creoles are defined as any person that was born in New Orleans that has French or Spanish family roots. This includes anyone that comes from Africa, the Caribbean, France, or any Spanish country. The Creoles, like the Cajuns, have had a huge impact on the Louisiana lifestyle. Many of their traditions have contributed to New Orleans and Louisiana’s unique art, music, and cooking.
