Summer Trip

“Juan!” Jacob called out excitedly to his best friend as he ran up to him in the hallway. “You are never going to believe what just happened in Mrs. Smith’s class!”

“What, Jake?” Juan was a little unsure of what type of news his friend could have. Jacob had a tendency to get excited about the strangest things.

“She told us we get to go to Washington D.C., and New York City this summer!”

Juan stared at his friend in astonishment. He had always wanted to go to New York City. “No way!” he exclaimed.

“I’m serious! We get to travel as a class, stay in hotels, and visit the Capitol building as well as the White House.”

“What about seeing a Broadway play?” Juan asked. “I have always wanted to see The Lion King on stage. My sister saw it when she was in high school, and she said it was amazing!”

“Who cares?” Jacob asked with an incredulous look on his face. “We might get to see the President in the White House!”

Juan just shook his head at his friend. “Uh. I don’t think he just walks around the White House.”

“You never know. But it won’t matter if our parents do not agree to let us go.”

Juan knew Jacob was right, and more than likely, his parents would not want him to go. They never trusted him to do anything without one of them going as well. Silence filled the air between the two friends for several seconds just before the warning bell sounded. Each was lost in his own thoughts, planning how they could convince their parents to let them go.

“Let’s come up with a plan to ask them while we are at lunch.” Juan suggested.

Jacob agreed immediately. “That’s a great idea! I’ll see you then.”
