    The Rose Princess
An adaptation of the Rose Princess folk tale

A long time ago in a faraway kingdom, there lived a beautiful princess. The princess had long red hair. She loved red roses. They called her Princess Rose.

At night-time, she would go out on her balcony. A gold bird would fly to her and sing. She would sing with the bird. The whole village would fall asleep and dream good thoughts.

There was an evil witch who did not like the princess. She cast a spell to turn the princess' hair black.

The next night when the gold bird came and sang, the princess sang again. This time, the village people went to sleep but had bad dreams.

The princess did not know what to do.

She asked the golden bird for help. The bird told her to dip her hair in rose water. The princess did, and it worked.

This made the witch even angrier. She cast a second spell.

This time she got rid of all the roses in the kingdom.

The princess asked the gold bird for help. The bird told her the same thing. The princess could not find any roses.

Just then a prince came with a lock of the princess' hair and dropped it on the ground. It grew a rose bush full of roses. The princess had rose petals to put in the water and dip her hair in. Her hair turned red again.

She could once again sing with the golden bird and make the people have good dreams.

The princess and prince got married. The evil witch was so upset, she left the kingdom.

    They lived happily ever after.
