Justice
By Ella Wheeler Wilcox
andemsp;andemsp;However inexplicable may seem
andemsp;andemsp;Event and circumstance upon this earth,
andemsp;andemsp;Though favours fall on those whom none esteem,
andemsp;andemsp;And insult and indifference greet worth;
(5)andensp;Though poverty repays the life of toil,
andemsp;andemsp;And riches spring where idle feet have trod,
andemsp;andemsp;And storms lay waste the patiently tilled soil -
andemsp;andemsp;Yet Justice sways the universe of God.
andemsp;andemsp;As undisturbed the stately stars remain
(10)Beyond the glare of day's obscuring light,
andemsp;andemsp;So Justice dwells, though mortal eyes in vain
andemsp;andemsp;Seek it persistently by reason's sight.
andemsp;andemsp;But when, once freed, the illumined soul looks out.
andemsp;andemsp;Its cry will be, 'O God, how could I doubt!'
